Petition for a Community Governance Review of West Bridgford
To: Rushcliffe Borough Council
We, the undersigned local government electors for the area of West Bridgford, petition Rushcliffe Borough Council, pursuant to Sections 79–81 of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007, to undertake a Community Governance Review of West Bridgford.
The purpose of the review should be to consider the creation of a new civil parish for West Bridgford and the establishment of a parish council, which may be known as West Bridgford Town Council. The area to which this relates includes the current borough wards of Compton Acres, Lutterell, Musters, Trent Bridge, Edwalton, Lady Bay, Abbey, and Gamston.
We believe that a Community Governance Review is necessary in order to consider whether a Town Council would provide effective and convenient local government and better reflect the identities and interests of the West Bridgford community.
By signing this petition, we request that Rushcliffe Borough Council commence a Community Governance Review in accordance with the provisions of the Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Act 2007.

Why should west bridgford have a town council?
West Bridgford is a thriving and distinctive community, yet it remains one of the largest towns in England without its own town council. While many towns and villages across Rushcliffe have a dedicated local council representing their interests, West Bridgford does not currently have an elected body focused solely on the needs and priorities of our town.
A town council would give West Bridgford a stronger local voice. It would provide a democratic forum dedicated to local issues, allowing decisions about community projects, local events, public spaces and neighbourhood priorities to be shaped by councillors elected specifically by West Bridgford residents.
As our town continues to grow, there is an increasing need for representation that is rooted in the community and accountable directly to local people. A town council could help coordinate community initiatives, support local organisations, champion the interests of residents and ensure that West Bridgford's voice is heard clearly within local government.
Most importantly, a town council would bring decision-making closer to the people it affects. It would give residents a greater say in the future of their town and provide a dedicated platform for addressing local concerns, celebrating local achievements and strengthening community identity.
We believe West Bridgford deserves the opportunity to consider whether a town council is right for our community. This petition is the first step in that process.
